CASE STUDY OF ENERGY SAVINGS
IN GREEN CLUB SPORTS CENTER SWITZERLAND

ABSTRACT
The Green Club in Lausanne Switzerland offers customers everything imaginable in sporting and leisure options, including restaurants and conference rooms. These extensive facilities require high quality lighting during day and night time operation.

CLIENT PROFILE
The Green Club is a huge sports center in the suburbs of Lausanne. The facilities include 6 indoor and outdoor tennis courts, 4 badminton courts and 3 squash courts, 1 weights room and 1 fitness room, 1 covered swimming pool, 1 sauna, an enormous car park, a restaurant and well laid-out terrace, as well as a conference room.

BUSINESS NEED
To obtain a significant reduction in its lighting bill, without affecting the quality of the lighting which is essential for the customer’s good sporting practice. The management also wanted to keep the capital investment at a minimum and did not want to embark upon a costly light replacement operation.

SOLUTION
Connecting all the Green Club's lighting systems to the LEC makes it possible to reduce the lighting costs by CHF 10,968 for a savings of 22% on electricity consumption. Consequently, the pay-back time was less than two years. However, the Green-Club's managers opted to lease the equipment first and purchase it later, as they wanted to take advantage of the LEC's efficiency at the earliest opportunity.

RESULTS
The LEC achieved 22% reduction in electrical consumption with an annual savings of 10,968 Swiss Francs. The original investment of 20,000 Swiss Francs in LEC equipment achieved an ROI of less than two years.
